Thanksgiving 2008 Poem

October 6, 2009
By

I’ve gotten a good response on my birthday poem so here’s what I wrote last year for our local “paper” (it’s a terrible excuse of a newspaper) when they asked for community members’ contributions for the Thanksgiving edition – what are you thankful for. I’ll let you read what I wrote, and then I’ll tell you what they included in the newspaper. Needless to say, I’ll never contribute to The “Suppository” again….

As I pause to reflect on the year that’s passed,
I wonder if it was any better than the last.
Gas prices have spiked so high that our travels were few,
Foreclosures are common and unemployment is too.
We stay home more, we eat out less,
We wonder when we will pass this ultimate test.
It is easy to gripe and groan about pinching our pennies
And stretching our means,
but we should also be grateful for
our blessings, the good things.

I’m thankful for my family, their health and support,
I’m thankful to still have two parents to whom I report.
I’m thankful for my friends, my comrades, my pals,
I’m thankful for their love, laughs and tears, and nights out with the gals.
I’m thankful for my best friend, her daughter, my “Loves”,
Who’ve shown me happiness in a fresh-baked muffin, a sleepover, a hug.
I’m thankful for my career with a Canton company,
One which has its ups and downs yet maintains its integrity.
I’m thankful for the free kitten who has matured into a cat,
I’m thankful for loving neighbors with whom I can chat.
I’m thankful for the little things, the smiles, the grins,
The XOX’s my Mama ends her emails with.
So take a moment and reflect, put aside your complaints,
And ask yourself if maybe you aren’t truly thankful for all you’ve been blessed with in 2008.

awww nice huh? So here’s how they butcher it.

In poem form, Amanda XXXXXX of the XXXXX Co., wrote she is thankful for her family, their health and support. She is also thankful for her friends, her cat and kisses and hugs her mother ends her e-mails with.

Are you fucking kidding me??? Sweet Jesus – plus they printed a fucking picture of me. Social Suicide, thank you Suppository!

Thank you Nathan =) Yes I was beyond pissed when I saw what they published – luckily I had emailed the poem to family and friends (made my Mama cry) so they knew the whole deal. And then I dug a hole because I knew my social life was over!

Wow! That was a really impressive poem. It flowed nicely and had a great message to appreciate the little things in your life. Perfect timing since the Canadian Thanksgiving is this weekend.

It is also incredibly funny how they managed to edit this poem. I guess they didn’t like it as much as I did. You must have been ready to kill someone when you saw the newspaper! hahaha!!

Thanks for sharing this thoughtful poem.
